Introduction: Zachary Wenner

Hello! Welcome to the Style Sum. This is a menswear blog that I started. Read about it on the mission page.

To start a blog like this, I have to start classic:

The Suit

Every man should have one. On my style journey I quickly learned that a suit is needed for multiple occasions, even as a college student. It’s better to have one then to be left hanging when something requiring one comes up.

Suits seemed so boring when I was younger. Later I discovered how a well-fitting one could improve appearance, I jumped on-board. I prefer a modern slim fit: not skinny tight, but limiting the extra fabric. An ill fit, either too tight or too loose just looks sloppy.

This is actually my first suit. I won in a contest on Indochino’s Facebook page a while back. My money was next to none at the time, so shout out to them! It’s a nice suit for the price, although I couldn’t even afford it.

A first suit should be in classic color like gray or navy. It’s just so versatile by itself or with other pieces. I frequently split up this suit. The jacket looks great in a more casual setting with a pair of jeans or other trousers.

I was given the watch for finishing my third year of varsity swimming at Lake Forest College. Although this outfit is mostly a classic combination, it’s fun to include some personal items in an outfit so that no one could replicate it exactly.

Everything else in the outfit was second-hand or bought at a steep discount. With my budget, I have to be very thrifty. I don’t believe that’s an excuse to skimp on the details though! I just have just have to work a bit harder to find things that are priced well and fit my style.

Crazy socks are fun! With an outfit that’s relatively simple in color palette, socks that are more “out there” can really work.

Don’t forget about the shoes though! Classic black cap-toes are under-rated but a classic pair of dress shoes like these can really finish off a suit well.
